Strength

We all have heard how resilient the human spirit is. Especially when we are pushed to our limits, how we react shows our true strength.

Do you get angry, sad, or do you take a breath, refocus, and move forward? I have done all of the above and more and more I decided that, well things happen for a reason. Sometimes it's a lesson or sometimes it's a blessing.

I also have decided that I want more blessings and feel I no longer want any more trivial tests of my character or strength.

Manifest your life as you wish it and stop worrying about the trivial things. Life is to short to not enjoy the crazy lessons to. Someday it will be a part of your amazing life story.

Love and Aloha,

Great Dads

I love my dad! He taught me everything. Made me learn to change a tire before he would teach me how to drive the car.

My dad was there for sporting events, graduations, and even walked me down the aisle.

Dad's are there for all their children's special moments. Shout out to all the great dads raising great kids. The world is a better place because of you.

Love always,

Father's Day Adventure

It was a beautiful day for a Sunday drive, all the way out to Nanakulibeach Park.
It was my first time swimming at this beach. A born and raised Kailua girl, I rarely venture farther than the mile to my favorite Kailua Bay.

Nanakuli beach had crystal clear water and a kid friendly surf swell that washed the kids back and forth on the sandy shore. They loved it and it looked so fun, I had to try it to. It really was fun and the water was so cool on a very hot summer day, I didn't want to get out. The need to reapply sunscreen, got me moving and back under a shady tent for most of the day.

I think my boys would have loved it today, so I'm planning on going back out there again.

A fun day of canoe racing at the Father's Day regatta, and so happy to spend a lovely day with my teammates at our awesome potluck BBQ.

A few hours later, I was back home chilling in the pool with my boys and getting things ready for a delicious Father's Day BBQ with my ohana.

Another truly fabulous weekend with a collection of memories all caught on camera. Captured moments to last a lifetime :) I am loving this life and my amazing family and friends to share it with.

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Love always,
Maile

Volunteer

Blessings overflow when you live your life to serve others. A volunteer day to help individuals with special needs enjoy an amazing day on the ocean, their smiles were more a gift for me than the joy they were experiencing.

I am so grateful for this amazing life!

Life is an adventure! Make yours memorable!

Bloom

It never fails, surprises always show up in multiples. It seems kind of like a landslide when you really think about it, so many wonderful events just keep adding up.

Your life is in Bloom! I can feel it and can see signs of it everywhere I look. I don't believe in coincidence, but that everything happens for a reason.

You are showered with many blessings, remind yourself of all the good things and see how blessed you truly are.

Smile for your week!

Celebrating

My weekend could not have ended on a better note. A day of triumphs and lots of celebrating.

I truly love my life and am so grateful for every glorious moment. Even the annoying, get up early, leave, and get parking moments, because it was just the beginning of a fabulous day!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Wishing you a beautiful week ahead.

A day in my life:

Family Breakfast
Shopping, Errands, and a workout bike ride, with so much walking. I told my son, it's just extra cardio.

Afternoon, we had a Boat operating lesson with my dad.

Then we went for a swim.
Played with the dog.
Enjoyed my zen moments watering my plants and squeezed in some hula practice.
And finally Family Dinner!

I love days like this. Today was filled with unexpected adventures. It doesn't have to be over the top, just enjoying one happy moment to the next. I hope you have a happy memorable weekend.

Love and Aloha,

Wet Nose!

Escaped dog found her way to my bedroom, and the shock of a wet nose nuzzled up on my hand, that just happened to be hanging over the edge of the bed, made me jump!

Best alarm clock ever! Maybe. Pets are funny. Hope you had a lot of smiles in your day! It's been a fun Monday. Wishing you a great week.

Regatta Race Day

My first regatta race day was an unexpected experience. I knew the parking was going to be crazy and was expecting hundreds of people.

The surprise was really the Aloha!

The participating canoe clubs were there in force and it felt like everyone was truly all apart of the same ohana. It didn't matter the color of your jersey, everyone watched out for everyone else and it had to be the friendliest sporting event atmosphere I have ever experienced.

I played high school sports, and absolutely believe in good sportsmanship, but this was good behavior with overwhelming aloha.

Okay, it was only the first race, and everyone could just be in a really great mood, or maybe its a beach thing. Honestly, the beautiful setting, the perfect weather, and everyone having a great time, who wouldn't be in a great mood?

There was also shopping! I saw lots of things I wanted. Yep the sunglasses, these float. Problem was I wanted three pairs and ultimately decided I couldn't decide. And the guy selling them said he would have new colors next time ;)

I am looking more forward to my next practice, as I get to enjoy more time paddling and less time standing around, but next race day is a week away and I'm excited to see what happens next.

Wishing you a great week!
Love and Aloha,

Malama Pono

Wa'a Blessings

I am honored and blessed to be a part of an amazing team of women and a prestigious canoe club. This year Lanikai celebrates 60 years of perpetuating this ancient Hawaiian tradition. I have absolutely fallen in love with canoe paddling. I miss it terribly when I'm not on the ocean. So grateful to live in such a beautiful place and have amazing friends to learn and grow in this fabulous sport.

Tomorrow we bless our canoes. They are the most important team member as we compete in this year's regatta season.

Go Lanikai! Although truly, I deeply respect all my fellow paddlers from all the canoe clubs around Hawaii and elsewhere. We paddle and keep this Hawaiian tradition alive and can continue to pass it down to the next generations. I am honored to be a part of it. Aloha nui loa.

Some history:
The outrigger canoe or wa‘a, was held in high regard since it had the responsibility of returning men, women, and children home safely from ke kai (the sea).

The wa‘a was so important to the Hawaiian people that each wa‘a was considered part of their ‘ohana(family) and was treated as such.  Just as important was the inoa (name) given the wa‘a.

Ho‘ola‘a wa‘a (Canoe Blessing)
Traditionally, nā wa‘a kino (canoe hulls) were fabricated from Koa trees and their ama (outrigger) were fabricated from the wiliwili-pua and the nā ‘iako (booms) were fabricated from the hau tree (sea hibiscus).  These pieces were all lashed together using aha (Sennet made from coconut fiber) that was braided into flat cord.

The Hawaiian people believed that everything had mana (a living spirit or super natural energy).  The Hawaiian ancestors taught that when a koa tree had fallen and died, it took on another life, a continued spirit called lā‘au mana.  Therefore, when we bless a canoe we start by asking the koa tree from which the wa‘a was carved - for forgiveness in taking the trees life.

We also thank the forest from which the tree came from for allowing us to give its child a new life as a wa‘a.

This wa‘a is a gift from Aku (God) so we bless it.  We also bless the wa‘a to celebrates its birth.  From this point on, we consider it the seventh voyager of a six kanaka canoe.

We thank Aku (God), nā aumakua (the ancestors), Lono, the demigod of fertility which allowed the tree to grow, and Kanaloa the demigod of ke kai (the sea) for allowing us to paddle our wa‘a on his skin.

Today the majority of wa‘a are fabricated from modern composites.  However, we still bless the canoes to pay our reverence to tradition and we still treat them as if they are part of our ‘ohana.

Many blessings to you.
Love always,
Maile
