Here comes the sun!

Here's a secret... Every morning when I'm blessed with a gorgeous sunrise, I almost want to sing.

We've all heard this famous Beetles song...

"Here comes the sun (doo doo doo doo)
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right..."

If only I could rock it as good as George Harrison, I just might forget myself and belt it out....haha

Happy wishes for a lovely day.

Here comes the sun (doo doo doo doo)
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right

Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right
It's all right

Spontaneity

We have all heard it before, "Spontaneity is the spice of life!"

Surprises can be so healthy for the soul. I am truly grateful for all the wonderful friends in my life, you make every day a gift.

I wish you all many fabulous surprises today and every day.

Story behind the photo...I was standing in the rain at my son's paddling practice having a great conversation with another coach, and was surprised with a spontaneous invite for dinner.

The thought of having someone else cook, lovely, especially as I was exhausted by the events of the day. My boys had a fridge full of yummy leftovers, so I knew they would not starve if I left them for the evening. As I didn't have an early start the next morning, a night out was totally doable.

Dinner was delicious and a second stop for ice cream, almost guilt free ;-)

Life is sweet, enjoy the moments. Be grateful for the wonderful people in your life and smile as much as you can. Our journeys aren't always easy, but rewards of friendship and joy are all around you. Be brave and choose to be happy.

Dream Chaser

Being an entrepreneur isn't for everyone, but everyone should try it at least once. It will certainly make you appreciate the brave business owners who didn't give up on their dreams!

It's actually their most powerful tool to keep their business going, is that vision of their dreams realized. If you can keep your focus, and have a lot of faith, you may finally see your dreams come to fruition.

Many will continue to try and launch their own business this year and the next and some will be highly successful. Just follow your dream and ignore everyone who doubt's you.

It's often a lonely road and only the bravest will taste success. I wish you all to just be brave in your own life. Take chances. Life is messy anyway. ;-)
Wishing you abundance and prosperity in the Year of the Horse!

Aloha,

Lucky Dog

I dragged myself up from my warm cozy bed at 5:30am this morning. It was raining and, for me, freezing!

Anyway, after I'm dressed and ready, about thirty minutes later, I go to wake up my dog for a quick walk outside. She peeks her head up from her warm cozy spot on the bed and just stares at me like I'm crazy.

I go downstairs and I finally hear her get up. I wait at the bottom step for her, she looks at me from the top of the stairs, does a long cat stretch, and wanders back to the room.

I am now in a hurry to leave, I go to check on her and ask her to go for a walk, yes, I did ask. She was curled up in a tiny ball at my son's feet. She was now refusing to make eye contact and just ignored me. Grrrrt Dogs! I left instructions for my boys to throw her outside for a while after they got ready.

When I got home, of course the rain had stopped and now she wanted to go out. Mud awaits my floors as I watch her pounce through dead grass spots of just solid mud tracks. Ugh! Dogs! Why do we love them?! Oh yeah, they can be kind of cute sometimes ;-)

Happy Wednesday!

Commitment

Life is in the moments, make them amazing!

Waking up to a very cold morning, and my first thought, is why would I want to leave the warmth of my bed? The answer, I made a commitment to be somewhere.

Choose to be present in your life and allow the universe to reward your efforts. Showing up may not seem like a big deal, but you never know how much you were needed until you arrive.

I wish you many blessings!

Dates?

I am discovering as I get older I am having some difficulty remembering when I did what. Time is flying so fast it seems.

Days, weeks, years tend to merge in my memories and I realize, looking back on it all, dates don't really matter. Just don't ask me to remember when.

In the bigger picture, the highlights are the moments I laughed and smiled and my time in those moments become precious.

Live a life that makes you truly happy. Don't care what the world thinks! It will become your prison if you choose to live by the standards of others, instead be the happiest You! In the end, that's all that will matter.

I am of course a rebel at heart! I'm going to do it my own way no matter what. But when I'm gone, at least I will have left my very own interesting story...my legacy. What will your life say about you?

Wishing you many exciting adventures!

Unexpected Rescue Mission

Lanikai Canoe Club Sunrise Paddling crews came to the aid of a stranded oc-1 paddler this morning.

Our fleet of four canoes, picked up Mariya Gold, after she got separated from the damaged oc-1, she was paddling in surf near the Mokulua islands.

The ocean is always so beautiful at Lanikai and even seasoned paddlers can be surprised by the power of the waves and currents.

She hopped into one of the open seats in our small armada and another boat hauled the damaged oc-1 back to the beach.

This isn't the first time I have participated in a rescue mission. On a few evening practices our teams have towed back some stranded kayakers, and various swimmers back to the beach.

Mahalo to the entire paddling community, we always help out when we can.

Wishing everyone a beautiful week!

A New Day

I'm sorry to think that people I care about suffer through hardships. It isn't a pleasant experience to say the least.

The positive is that it doesnt last forever. It's merely a transition. Unfortunately, the time it takes depends on the individual.

I'm happy for those that begin this journey. Trust that it happens only when you are ready.

You will discover how strong you  really are and eventually emerge the beautiful spirit you are meant to be, to carry you through the next chapter on your journey.

Everyone goes through this. Having survived my own bump in the road, I can say it was hell trudging the depths of my low points.

In reflection I truly grew. My life got better! Opportunities started showing up and although its a few years later, the light just keeps getting brighter.

I am more grateful for the little joys of everyday moments and have learned to live in the present. Life is truly a gift!

I wish you an amazing New Year! Release all negative energy that hindered your life in anyway and may blessings overflow for you.

Hau'oli Makahiki Hou

The first sunrise of 2014!
I awoke early and headed to my favorite East side beach. I wasn't the only one with the same idea of seeing the dawn of this new year.

I watched hikers walking along the mountain trail with flashlights to get amazing views of this first day, and the beach I arrived at was filled with people. Tripods with fancy cameras lined the shore. Smart camera phone photographers (like me) were also ready to get the shot.

I snapped a few from the beach and then my sunrise paddlers and I set out in our  canoes heading East. Just a few minutes later the fiery sun slowly appeared above the horizon.

I couldn't help but watch its ascent through the low lying clouds... Breathtaking! Although, I was paddling a canoe and keeping pace for my fellow crew. Huffing and puffing we all ooo'd and ahhh'd as we continued our heading towards the sun.

Three canoes stopped in the calm ocean and I finally got to capture the beauty that has started off our new year. Happy 2014 everyone! Wishing us all an abundantly prosperous New Year! Hau'oli Makahiki Hou!

Aloha 2013

Some years seem more significant than others. I won't pretend any were ever easy. If you aren't learning, you aren't growing.

Life is full of so many opportunities that inevitably we change. Nothing can really stay the same.

For me, this was a year to challenge myself. I jumped into adventure and signed myself up for the unexpected. I surprised myself! Not only did I survive it, I changed!

A dear friend once told me, that if something makes you uncomfortable, instead of running away, run towards it and embrace it. It feels like standing on the edge of a cliff and everything is screaming to turn around, but there is a whisper, and it just says, be patient.

Faith and hope can get you through anything. Courage is only realized after you've gone thru it. I wish I could say I was brave, but I was honestly terrified and doubt was always lingering in the background. I just chose to ignore it.

I have loved every moment of 2013! I have met some of the most wonderful people. I am truly grateful for every amazing person that has entered my life. I am honored to share any part of my journey with you. I wish you all many blessings in this new year!

With all my love,

Warning for Parents

An unfortunate incident happened yesterday at the intersection of Kuulei Road and Kainalu Drive in front of the fire station in Kailua. A young boy on a bicycle was hit by a car.

According to my young son, who had just entered the crosswalk on his own bike, heard the collision behind him and turned to see the boy fly off his bicycle and land a few feet away.

The vehicle stopped and as he was uncertain what to do, he waited for the boy to get up, which he did. Then in a panic, as my son felt he was in danger in the crosswalk, sped home on his bike.

When he told me what had happened at home, his face was pale and he was really shooken up.

He is so young, I never thought I would have to explain what to do in an accident, but as it could have easily just have been him who got hit, I sat him down and did my best to explain what he should do and if he is witness to such a tragedy again, which I hope is never.

It's terrible enough to have to explain to kids, "watch out for strangers," and "watch for cars," "look both ways before crossing a street" (which he does, thank goodness), but to tell him what to do when something goes wrong. As a parent, I didn't want to say it or think it.

I checked the news feeds and paper and couldn't find any information on this incident, which makes me worry that this incident was never reported. I send prayers out to this unknown child, who my son described as possibly a fifth grader who may attend Kailua Elementary School and was wearing a red T-shirt. I truly hope he is in good health.

To the driver, as scary as what happened was, I hope you reported it yourself and make certain this child is okay.

Parents, we all have so much we still need to tell our kids. I wish he had known to render aid and get help. He was too scared. He didn't know. And its sad to say, but he was never too young. If he was old enough to ride a bike and be out there with the cars, I can't assume all drivers would be so respectful or cautious as I would hope.

Share your wisdom with the next generation. Give them the knowledge they need to tackle any problem.

Love and Aloha,
Maile Mitchell-Akita

Rainbow Days

I am living my life in full color! One of my more colorful days has to be this past Monday at the Color Vibe Run.

Wonderful friends and my older son, Kai who spontaneously agreed to go, made it the most fun day I have ever EVER had RUNNING. Yes, I admit it, I went running and I liked it.

The exploding clouds of color packets that almost made you believe that this might actually be what it's like if you ever could catch a rainbow.

Hundreds of other crazy colored people running alongside us, felt other worldly. Everyone was so friendly and happy, they would smile and cheer each other on. (There is a metaphor in here about life. I won't go inspirational quote on you here...but I know you get it.)

At the end of the 5k, the rainbow colored humans happily jumped, danced, and cheered at the rocking dance party as more cloud packets burst in the air.

Live your life in color, its so much more fun.

Smile, and send cheerfully honest love and support to everyone. It comes back to you, and at the end of this journey of our lives, you will be rewarded with your own rocking dance party!!!

Free and Happy

I proudly live my life as I choose. Its great others notice, but when people say negative things,  its always a reflection of themselves. Things they like about themselves, don't like about themselves, or jealousy.

I will not live my life in accordance to what anyone else thinks. This is my life and only I can walk my journey.

My personal battles are my own. Some wounds heal faster than others, but scars are reminders of what you have overcome. Wear your scars proudly and as they heal, your life will continue to transform as you wish it.

Be confident in yourself and live above the drama and continue your own journey. Only you can walk in your shoes.

People will enter in and out of your life. Every relationship, is always an opportunity to learn and grow. If drama arises, your reaction is the only thing you can control. Your life will only change if you wish it. No one can stop you from being who you are.

Regardless of what anyone thinks, choose to live with gratitude in your heart and blessings will overflow in your life.

For those that are living in drama, wish them well, for they are learning their own life lesson. Some are harder than others.

I believe in the best you. Wishing you an amazing life.

Love always,

Peace

Peace to me is living my power in every moment by simply being present.

When I am with someone, it means, putting down the phone and enjoying the magic of our time together.

There is such a beautiful synergy when you make a connection with others, you can't do that in a phone call, or a text and definitely not in an email. There is nothing more special than breathing in a moment of time with a wonderful friend.

Spend your life's moments with people that fill you with joy and make you smile. They have the power to brighten your day and heal your spirit. They eliminate stress and you truly are blessed with an overwhelming sense of peace.

There is peace in trust, in friendship, and love.

Life is a journey, travel with friends :-)

Aloha Friday

Waking up before sunrise is never easy. My eyes want to stay shut and the thought of leaving my comfy bed is near unthinkable. The strategically placed phone with my alarm clock app, insists I move to make it stop.

Half an hour later, the sky is streaked with brilliant orange, red, and a golden sunrise that is calling me to venture outdoors.

I soon find myself walking up the path to my favorite beach, and my fellow paddling friends have also  arrived.

Moments later we are far off shore and paddling a mini armada of outrigger canoes into the beautiful bay. We take our first break after 15 minutes or so, and take a look around at the most stunning view of Hawaii.

Waking up early was so worth it! This is my favorite way to start the day!

My next goal, is to get my kids addicted to waking up to the  awesomeness of our beautiful world.

Blessings for the day: a happy seal sleeping on the sand at the Mokulua's and a baby honu (turtle) that popped its head up next to our canoe.

Love the always clear water showing off its many colorful coral beds and just a few waves to surf make paddling one of my favorite sports.

Wishing you a fabulous adventure in your own life. Enjoy every moment!

Love and Aloha,

Hokule'a

Today I lived history. Hawaii's ambassador on the ocean, Hokule'a arrived in Kailua Bay. An armada of canoes went to greet her and escort her safely to shore.

We transported her crew with the help of multiple canoes to the sands of Kailua beach.

Conch shells blew and a hula Halau chanted a beautiful Hawaiian greeting. The crew of Hokule'a also chanted a response. It was Hawaii's cultural traditions brought back to life once again.
I was so impressed with how many people were there to be apart of this beautiful ceremony.

Exciting to know they will do it again when they depart Kailua bay and arrive at their next destination in Waimanalo. I'm honored to have the opportunity to dance with my hula Halau in Waimanalo in a few days and be apart of this cultural ceremony.

Today, I paddled with my paddling Halau, Lanikai Canoe Club and was so happy to see my friends from Kailua Canoe Club,  as well. There were other canoe clubs out there today, forgive me, I didn't get a chance to meet them. I hope all the canoe club's around the island participate if they have the chance.

It was magical to be on the ocean with Hokule'a surfing along the waves next to our fleet of canoes. Grateful for such a wonderful opportunity.

This was a moment in my life, I won't soon forget.

Wishing you many blessings. Live every moment of your life.
