I was surprised with a text message from my son this morning, "Mom, it's my graduation ceremony at 8:30am, can you bring a lei?"
Unfortunately, I got the message at 8:30am and raced straight from a morning beach workout and was shocked to see a full blown graduation ceremony.
Holding lei's and balloons, parents, grandparents, aunties, and uncles surrounded the kids who were sitting in rows on the grassy field.
There were a few song performances by the graduating class, several commencement speeches and lots of awards and photo opportunities for parents wanting to document this momentous occasion of graduating elementary school!!!
Elementary school?!? Okay, I admit, I didn't get the memo about this graduation ceremony at all. My son couldn't find the piece of paper that he was supposed to give me a week ago, and I didn't think it would be anything more than his teachers having a class party. That's tomorrow btw, and I had to whip up a dessert at the last minute without much notice for that either.
I understand, it's the end of the school year, kids have worked hard and their only thoughts are about summer vacation.
My grade school years are long over, but I swear we never had such a fancy send off! It was more about watching the clock on that last day of school, waiting for the final bell to ring in the official start of summer vacation!
Actually, I honestly can't wait for summer, I hate waking up early for school ;p
Happy wishes for your Thursday!
Love and Aloha,
Maile
